"Chilling…Reads like a West Coast version of All the President’s Men." —The New York Times Book Review

The full inside story of the breathtaking rise and shocking collapse of Theranos, the multibillion-dollar biotech startup, by the prize-winning journalist who first broke the story and pursued it to the end, despite pressure from its charismatic CEO and threats by her lawyers.

In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the female Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup "unicorn" promised to revolutionize the medical industry with a machine that would make blood testing significantly faster and easier. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes's worth at an estimated $4.7 billion. There was just one problem: The technology didn't work.

A riveting story of the biggest corporate fraud since Enron, a tale of ambition and hubris set amid the bold promises of Silicon Valley.

As the review says. I did enjoy this book, but at times, I felt like it went around in circles or didn’t get to the point quick enough for my tastes. Still, an excellent read!

It's a thriller, a bizarre tale of deception and greed, and a hard to put down read. Totally enjoyed it.

I would hope this book is read by people realizing how dangerous this woman was to anyone using Theranos blood tests. She did not care for any other human beings besides herself. Knowing that persons invested in this company, this total sham, was one thing but to mess with people’s health was another thing. I hope that this has opened the eyes of the FDA and the sloppily work they did and how Elizabeth Holmes tricked them. It would be a shame if she does not get an extended prison sentence.

If you want to learn more about one of the absolute worst companies since Enron and how it managed to fool all of Silicon Valley, Murdoch, Warren Buffet, and even General Mattis to name a few, then start reading this. A gripping expose of Elizabeth Homes and the multi-billion dollar scam she spearheaded.

  • Shame on you WSJ, a romance novel, no less

The author writes at high school level and is an expert in cattiness. His book, close to a romance novel - is mainly a character and personality attack on Elizabeth Holmes. ( This is so, the lab write-ups cut and pasted in the book notwithstanding.) VC Capitalist Tim Draper is on record this week and earlier saying that “this writer ( Carreyrou ) was like a badger going after her, like a hyena going after her.” Mr. Carreyrou, have you ever tried the dreaded private sector on your own? Will you, Mr. Carreyrou, be horrified should we meet to learn that I change and modulate my voice depending on the audience? Or did Elizabeth’s beautiful speaking voice really get your goat, so that in defense you take ample room in your “book” to call her voice “fake.” Geez. Consider General Petraeus, who wrote that to get ready for an important meeting he had to first “put his face on”. Absolutely. Big thanks Tim Draper, for all you do and especially supporting Elizabeth and in that sense — all of us entrepreneurs. Be strong Elizabeth. The hyena only has sticks and stones. We will support you in many ways to nullify the hyenas attempt to create and influence prosecutor, judge and jury. From a female scientist entrepreneur
