In the vein of Jurassic Park, this high-concept thriller follows a group of graduate students lured to Hawaii to work for a mysterious biotech company—only to find themselves cast out into the rain forest, with nothing but their scientific expertise and wits to protect them.

An instant classic, Micro pits nature against technology in vintage Michael Crichton fashion. Completed by visionary science writer Richard Preston, this boundary-pushing thriller melds scientific fact with pulse-pounding fiction to create yet another masterpiece of sophisticated, cutting-edge entertainment.

I started this book the day it came out and finished it a day or two later, and it was an EXCELLENT book. While some of it was written not by Crichton but by Richard Preston, Preston himself is an excellent and accomplished writer. Reading a book written by the both of them was even better!

I loved it. I couldn’t stop. Michael Crichton is such a deep writer. Finished it in 1 day! Must recommend for any Michael Crichton fan for sure.
  • Too bad Crichton was not able to complete his work

Very interesting idea.. The book started off good but mid-way through, it became dull and the ending was just flat--I almost fall asleep :(

Very disappointing. Not at all up to what I expect from Crichton. At least Jurassic Park was somewhat plausible. This book is not.

Michael Crichton's books always bring out information about new technological ideas for the reader to think about, to see the potential good as well as the downside uses. This tale of fiction does this well, immersing the reader in a new way of seeing the world. He gets you hooked, and then it's hard to put it back down! Good story!

The concept of Micro could have been fascinating, but the novel is a mess from start to finish, especially the ending. The characters are like cartoon figures and the plot goes round and round with little interest. I so enjoyed Michael Crichton's past writing. It's a shame this book was published at all. Instead of ending his bright career with a strong novel, Micro leaves it with a big black mark.

I got to believe Michael Crichton is tossing in his grave. I am losing the battle with myself to always finish the book you have started and since I am writing this review one can assume I lost.
  • It's obvious where Mr. Preston took over

It started out really good, science based (as expected with MC), and entertaining. The opening chapter alone hooked me right away. Yet, as the story went on, I found myself not really caring about what happened next, I loved "Timeline" and "Prey" for these reasons. As the books continues...you just keep saying in a sarcastic way, "REALLY!?" The ending was horrible...it would have been different if MC finished the project himself. Worth the read? Yes. Is it gonna blow your mind? Meh...it's a fun way to pass the time instead of watching TV.
